As the K-pop fandom becomes bigger in the country, communications consultancy and management firm BluePrint.PH has established that that Hallyu or Korean Wave is the second most talked-about topic in Facebook among Filipino users as shown by big data analytics in January-February 2021, which showed discussions on social media network about the top Kpop groups, stars, and K drama accounting for millions of data points.

For the month of March 2021, BluePrint.PH generated a list of the top K-pop artists and groups based on our daily trending monitoring among posts that generated 5.23 million engagement score or the interaction of each posts based on comments, reactions and shares.

First on the list with 2.5 million engagement score is the all-girl group BlackPink. For March, Blackpink’s rise to number 1 is driven by Rosé’s solo album track, On the Ground. Rose’s solo track broke records in Billboard and Guinness, as the first Asian artist to reach number one on a Billboard Global chart as a soloist and as part of a group. On March 13, Rosé was the number 1 trending keyword in Blueprint’s daily scan from this post from Blackpink’s Facebook page.


To date, this post has more than 300,000 reactions and an engagement score of nearly 80,000. Another strong push for Blackpink’s engagement score is the celebration of Lisa’s birthday. Blackpink’s official Facebook page remains to be the main influencer and driver of content. Local fan group BlackPink Philippines is the main local influencer. Blackpink also holds the record of having 60 million Facebook subscribers, making them the second most largest among global artists the first Korean group to achieve such feat.

Second on the list is BTS (or Bangtan Sonyeondan). The Bangtan Boys previously held the top spot in February. For March, BTS posts generated an engagement score of 1.9 million, and BTS’s Grammy red carpet photo from the Facebook Page Bangtan TV got the highest engagement.

The youngest member and main vocals of BTS, Jungkook, holds the highest engagement score among all celebrities on BluePrint.PH’s daily trending monitoring. Jungkook appeared number 1 on March 8, and was included in the top 50 trending keywords for 26 out of 31 days in March. The post that made him number 1 was from Bangtan TV page that shared this Vlive post: Jungkook singing Abyss has 63,000 reactions.

Local fan page  BTS Noona ㅠ ㅠ is the most followed local fan service page.

Third on the list is Twice. Twice has been trending along with Blackpink and BTS, as one of the hottest Kpop groups in the country. Local influencers Twice Posting and Twicers drove the high engagements for Twice.

Kpop star IU follows at 4th spot with 151,370 engagement score, with love reactions of 881,000. Her new music video released on March 25 had high engagements particularly from this post from the FB page, 1theK.

On the 5th spot is Exo with an engagement score of 101,032 and 573,274 love reactions. Exo announced a 10th film and album from this post from AllKpop page (The premier source for all the latest K-pop gossip and news.)

The Exo-related post with the highest engagement was Chanyeol’s enlistment to South Korea’s mandatory military service:


All male Kpop group NCT holds the 6th slot with an engagement score of 80,737, and love reactions of 318,364. NCT Dream joined Lazada’s Super Party on March 26.

On the 8th spot is Astro, with 75,000 engagement score and love reactions of 394, 698. Astro’s vocalist and visual, actor, and face genius, CHA EUNWOO celebrated his 23rd birthday, and this gained high engagement through this post from AllKpop:

At the same time, Cha Eunwoo will also appear on Kdrama, as announced on this post from Soompi:

Rookie k-pop group TXT or Tomorrow x Together made it on the 9th spot with 56,649 engagement points and 303,647. The most engaging post for TXT is this post from Big Hit Music: a link to an article about TXT from Elite Daily.

 

And on the 10th place is Kpop group SHINee, with an engagement score of 57,897 and love reactions of 272,322. A post from AllKpop FB page on: “SHINee’s Minho kindly explains to a child why Jonghyun is not here and introduces him as a ‘good uncle’ gained a lot of engagement. The post is linked to a video on SHINee members showing children their videos and responding to a question on why one member, Jonghyun, is not with them anymore. This can be emotional for some fans, who felt a wave of loneliness for the absence of the late member.
