Blueprint.ph’s scan of trending keywords from January and February showed that K-pop and K-dramas remained among the top topics of Filipino Facebook users. For February, 1,480 trending keywords were collected, of which 503 or 34% were keywords related to the Faith category. Closely following Faith is the category Korean Wave with 440 words or 30% of the total keywords or a total of 46.3 million data points.

Data points are all the posts, comments, shares and emoticon reactions — like (👍), love (❤️), Haha (😆), sad () and angry (😡).

Posts or memes about K-Pop artists dominated the Korean Wave category with the boy band BTS accounting for 50% or 23.5 million total data points, thus getting the first spot in that category. It was followed by girl singing group Blackpink with 15.4 million data points at the second spot; and Twice at 1.8 million data points. The top 10 are:

World’s Biggest Boyband

Grammy nominated, and currently the world’s biggest boyband, BTS, or other names Bangtan Sonyeondan, Bulletproof Boyscouts or 방탄소년단 raked in 23,467,041 data points or total of posts, comments, shares, and reactions.This month’s most popular BTS post was BTS’s BE_Curated for Army, a series of room sketches curated by BTS themselves.


 This post got a 449K Talking about points, 34K shares,  525K reactions, and 28K comments.

BTS on MTV unplugged

Another top post was BTS’s MTV Unplugged feature, the first K-pop band to perform in the show.


BTS is the first K-pop group to perform on MTV Unplugged.

Another driver of active engagements are their Notes and live short vlogs from each member also made waves as this is a way to engage to their fans, the BTS Army. Their active social media interactions in various platforms from Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, South Korea’s Kpop site Weverse, etc on a daily bases drive high number of interactions.

Coming closely in second place is Blackpink with 15,371,177 data points. The post with highest interactions was Blackpink member Rose’s birthday on February 10.

Blackpink member Rose’s birthday post got 356K Talking about points, 295K share counts, 1.4M Reactions, and 156K comments.

Blackpink breaks 1 billion views on Youtube

Other top engaging posts were from the Blackpink’s official page announcing their song Kill this Love has reached 1.2 billion views, and Boombayah with 1.1 billion views in Youtube.

K-Pop all-girl group Twice is in third place with 1.8 million data points. Impressively, the top influencer is a Filipino Twice fan page, Twicers. The page posts funny memes and photos about the group and fans enjoy interacting with each other.

From Soldier to Lawyer

Recent mover on number Four is the K-drama series, Vincenzo with 1.23 million data points. Vincenzo stars Soon Joong Ki of the popular series, Descendants of the Sun. This is now being streamed in Netflix since February 21 and is the number 1 series in Netflix Philippines. Vincenzo actor Soong Joong Ki’s official fan page is the main influencer, specifically his photo posts from his previous K-drama Descendants of the Sun and Vincenzo.

This post from Song Joong Ki earned the highest engagement score for the current no. 1 series streaming on Netflix Philippines.

Coming in at number 5 is the K-Pop group, Exo with 913,836 data points. The high number of engagements about Exo were on the news that Exo member Chanyeol is expected to enlist in South Korea’s mandatory military service in March, and another news on its member D.O. starring in a Korean remake of the Taiwanese movie, “The Secret. Both news were featured in Facebook pages of K-Pop news sites, Soompi and AllKpop.

Bae Suzy, the star of Start Up, a K-drama shown in Netflix, is 6th on the list, with almost 900,000 data points.  The post with the top engagement is #save Myanmar, as she expressed her solidarity with the people of Myanmar.

Lee Min Ho gets the 7th spot with 747,937 points. Lee Min Ho is consistent in the monthly top list on this category. A local K-drama fanpage, K-Dramaland.tv in one of the hottest influencer for Lee Min Ho, at the same time, posts from Blackpink’s Jisoo reposted some pictures with the actor.

Getting the 8th spot is Vincenzo actor Song Joong Ki with 725,231 points, 9th is actor Hyun Bin with 709,373 points, and 10th is actress Park Shin-Hye with 373,233 points. The top post for Hyun Bin is his Under Armour pictorial in South Korea, and as a Smart Communications endorser. As for Park Shin-Hye, the top engagement was recorded for a GMA News post that the actress stars in a new series, Sisyphus, that is being streamed in Netflix.
